Women s Suffrage Movement Of The United States - 1341 Words

Before the 1700s, women in the United States didn’t receive any good education. When women did start to get good education, they started to get more into politics and started asking questions about why couldn’t they vote among other things. The year 1948, marked the birth of women suffrage movement when the first women’s right convention was held in Seneca Falls. The convention was organized by Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Together with other women they declared that women should have rights in education, voting, property and more. The drive for women suffrage gained power after the 15th amendment, passed in 1869, which allow black men to vote. Margaret Crocco said, â€Å"Women of all ages, classes, ethnicities, and races- often separated but sometimes together-developed a suffragist infrastructure rooted in local and state politics and coordinated effectively at the national level,’’(Crocco). This shows that even though the women had their differences, they were willing to work together to accomplish something they all wanted which is suffrage. This fact created a link between the women of America. Women also helped each other gain even more benefits to help the movement succeed. Extremely wealthy women provided the money for full-fledged political campaigns to vote. These classes formed an uneasy alliance that gave the cause new power and possibility,† (Smith). This shows even with their different life styles, women was able to overcome it to help each other. By doing that they got work done which help progress the suffrage movement. The power of women in the USA really bought the movement to a new level, showing the strength of women combined.
